The roads and airways of America will soon swell with travelers as the airports of large cities and the familiar roadways of small towns deposit their passengers onto Main Street and onto the doorsteps of home.

Travel tends to pick up in the month of December as families everywhere make destination plans and prepare old stories to reunite in the living room of an aunt’s house or at mom’s place.

Eventually, all roads lead home again, and for many, home is right here in Pickens County.

It is home to Shelia Barton at Town and Country Florist on Main Street in Pickens. It is home to Joe Lesley and all the folks at Joe’s Restaurant in Easley. It is home to me and it is home to you, and at this time of year, the reigns of home never pull so tight.

Life’s better moments can sometimes be measured only in fragments. Those better days where the rotten complacency of a thousand Mondays is offset by sharing a laugh with old friends, taking a family trip back home, or polishing off the rest of a pumpkin pie after dinner.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could extend those sentiments into the drudgery and monotony of the work week, where they would serve as a beacon to us all, reminding us that we can all go home again, even if only in our thoughts.
