The Electric City Lions need blankets for homeless

ANDERSON COUNTY — Anderson’s professional men’s basketball team won two games back to back this weekend. The Electric City Lions of the American Basketball Association defeated the Southwest Warriors of Atlanta, GA on Saturday 131-124. The player of the game was De’Alto Marshall with 25 points, 18 rebounds, and 4 assists. Mareo Thompson led the team in scoring hitting 31 points. On Sunday, the Lions traveled to Fayetteville, NC to upset the newly ranked Fayetteville Flight 124-122. Clay Huggins, formerly of Anderson University dominated the game with 30 points and 8 rebounds. The Lions have a 3-2 record. They are 3-0 since the addition of their new coach Rick Patterson of Anderson, “We are going to make some noise in the league in hopes of a play-off bid. Our guys have been working hard and are looking to many future wins”.

The Lions will continue collecting blankets for Operation Give a Hand throughout the month of December. Their goal is to collect over 200 blankets. The blankets will be distributed to the homeless and those in need on Dec. 23 at 4 p.m. at the Anderson County Farmer’s Market. Fans who bring blankets to any Lions game will receive free admission for the remainder of the month. Blankets can also be dropped off at the office of Samantha at Your Service at 210 South McDuffie Street Anderson. To schedule blanket pick up call 864-634-2874.

The Lions remaining schedule for Dec. 15 vs. Phenix City Bombers, 22 vs. Georgia Gwizzlies both at Westside High School at 5 p.m., a benefit game for The Westside Community Center on Sat., Dec. 29, and one road game on Dec 30 vs. SW Warriors in Atlanta, GA.
