ANDERSON COUNTY — A hit-and-run that claimed the life of 32-year old Liberty resident Monday night is still under investigation.

The incident took the life of Clifton D. Chapman on Sharon Church Road in Anderson County just south of Liberty.

South Carolina Highway Patrol officials say 20-year old Ashley Duggan of Liberty is a suspect in fatal collision, which took place at around 6:30 p.m.

Chapman was found in a ditch early the next morning, according to Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore.

Shore said neighbors heard the collision Monday night and saw the car at the scene in the moments that followed. Neighbors said the car left fairly quickly, according to Shore.

Authorities were called Tuesday morning after a driver discovered the body.

Chapman died as a result of blunt force trauma and multiple fractures, according to Shore.

“From what we know about his injuries, he did not suffer,” Shore said.

No charges have been filed for Duggan, who may have been driving a 1999 Dodge Stratus at the time of the collision according to Lance Cpl. Bill Rhyne.

Duggan was not injured.

The SC Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation.
