CLEMSON – A Wachovia bank in Clemson was robbed Wednesday morning by a man brandishing a handgun, according to police.

The incident happened around 10:40 a.m. at the branch on College Avenue.

According to police, what is believed to be a lone gunman went into the bank and ordered everyone to the floor.

“The individual then began to gather an unknown amount of money and placing it into a bag,” said Clemson Police Chief Jimmy Dixon.

Police say the man then left the bank in what may have been a gold-colored 1990s model Ford Taurus, possibly with a Georgia license plate.

No one was injured during the incident, Dixon said.

The man is described as white, approximately 5 ft., 10 in. to 6 ft. tall, medium build, and wearing a black ball cap with a mask or bandana covering his face up to the eyes.

Police said he was also wearing a blue/gray work-type jacket.

The Clemson Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigations is investigating the robbery.
