COLUMBIA – Two local men face charges of passing counterfeit money, according to officials with the U.S. District Attorney’s office.
Indictments against Clifton Tyrone Garrett, 30, of Easley, and Duriel Roynell Robinson, 27, of Liberty were issued last Wednesday.
The charges came following a federal investigation of food vendors receiving fake money during a Clemson University basketball game in late January, said U.S. Attorney W. Walter Wilkins.
Garrett and Robinson could face up to $250,000 in fines and 20 years in prison, he said.
Agents with the U.S. Secret Service investigated the case, which was assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorney David C. Stephens of the Greenville office for prosecution, Wilkins said.
He reminded the public that the charges are “merely accusations and that all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.”
