ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia police are still searching for a man wanted in connection with the shooting of a Clemson University professor and two others.

During the past week, authorities have followed up on several leads in their search for George Martin Zinklan, a University of Georgia professor, according to Athens-Clarke County Police Department officials.

They discovered Zinklan’s red Jeep Liberty last Thursday in a wooded area near his Bogart, Ga. home, the Associated Press reported.

But tracking dogs were unable to pick up a scent from the Jeep, said John Bankhead, a spokesman for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Bankhead said it appears the Jeep was driven off a 14-foot cliff into a ravine.

Along with local and state authorities, the FBI is also helping in the search for the 57-year-old professor.

Clemson University economist Tom Tanner, 40, Zinklan’s wife Marie Bruce, 47, and Ben Teague, 63, were gunned down outside an Athens community theater.
