Pickens County deputy charged in boat crash

ANDERSON — The operators of both boats involved in a May 9 collision on Lake Hartwell have been charged in the collision that sent six people to the hospital, according to authorities.

One of the drivers was a Pickens County deputy and the other a woman from Starr, said Capt. Larry Holbrooks with the S.C. Department of Natural Resources.

Deputy Jeremiah Wayne Vissage, 33, of Pickens, was charged with negligent operation an failure to keep a safe lookout, according to the citation issued.

Deena R. Crawford, 38, of Starr was driving the second boat. She was charged with boating under the influence, a citation states.

The boats collided near Charlie Ts, a restaurant in Anderson with a boat dock.

According to authorities, the boat Crawford was operating was leaving the restaurant when it collided with Vissage’s boat.

A second Pickens County deputy was a passenger on his boat, according to police.
