Each member of the club donated $100 to raise funds for the Clemson University Chapter of Engineers without Borders to make the project possible.
Between member donations, other donations and matching funds through the Rotary Foundation, the club was able to create $25,000 in funds to help the community near the coast create a water line for drinking water and to install a wind turbine that will generate the power necessary to for the supplying well’s operation.
The Clemson engineering students are also helping build the community by educating them in practices such as sustainable farming.
The group got involved with the project through contact with members of 91 villages in the area that joined forces to get things they need like water and roads.
Clemson Engineers without Borders are designing the water line and locals are digging the trenches and installing the pipe.
The new system will directly affect 85 families in the community, around 400 people and a school.
