County’s Class of 2009 graduates Saturday

CLEMSON — More than 900 Pickens County students will close one chapter in their lives and begin a new one Saturday — entering Clemson University’s LittleJohn Coliseum as students and leaving as high school graduates.

Graduation ceremonies begin at LittleJohn 10 a.m. Saturday with Liberty High School.

Liberty is graduating a class of 153 students. Valedictorian Jonathan Daniel Raines and Salutatorian Meghan Raye King will speak at the ceremony.

Daniel High School’s ceremony begins at 1 p.m., with a graduating class of 210.

Valedictorian Christine Hughes, Salutatorian Megan Jones and Benjamin Qualkinbush will speak at the ceremony.

Pickens High School’s ceremony begins at 4 p.m., with a graduating class of 293.

Valedictorian Abigail Lauren Colwell-Bisbee and Salutatorian William Kyle Porter will speak at the ceremony.

Easley High School’s ceremony begins at 7 p.m., with a graduating class of 309. Valedictorian Ammar Sarner Joudeh, Salutatorian Joshua Cory Williams, Ali Rhiem, Myron Nesbitt, Grace Grindstaff, and Jessica Nash will speak during the ceremony.

The county’s class of 2009 will enter college having earned more than $12 million in scholarships.

Liberty High School’s graduating class received $1,404,535 in scholarships. Daniel High School received $3,153,594, Pickens High School students received $3,698,746 and Easley High School received $3,806,896 in scholarship funds.
