EASLEY—The first inning of Friday afternoon’s game must have seemed like a full week to the host team, S.C. District One, as Louisiana scored 10 runs on four hits and four errors to take a commanding lead in the game.

The game ended in five innings, with Louisiana winning 13-3.

The loss was a bit of an historic one for S.C. District One. It marked the first time the host team has lost twice in pool play since the BLWS came to Easley in 2001. It was also the first time the host team has been on the losing side of a game that was stopped early due to the 10-run rule.

It also means that after winning four Big League titles in five years, and reaching the semi-finals for seven straight years, S.C. District One will miss the semi-finals round for the second straight year.

All of those thoughts were probably second-hand during the first inning Friday afternoon, as the team, coaches and fans probably all wondered if there would ever be a third out.

Colby Johnson opened the game for Louisiana, reaching base on an error, then advancing to second base. Ryan Gebhardt singled to give the team from Rushton, La., runners on the corners. Johnson then scored on a ground-out play.

Landon Williams then singled to right-center, driving in Gebhardt from second base.

After S.C. District One pitcher Sammy Nix recorded a strikeout, Corey Jones was then hit by a pitch. Jason Tuggle came in to pinch run for Jones.

Andy Roberts was then hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. Jacob Long came in to relieve Nix as pitcher.

Long struck out Chase Hesson struck out, but the last strike came on a wild pitch. Hesson hustled to first base and beat out the throw, knocking in a run and keeping the inning alive for Louisiana.

Chase Patterson then reached base on an error, driving in another run.

Colby Johnson hit a single that drove in two more runs. The runners advanced to second and third bases on a wild pitch, then came home when Gebhardt reached on an error.

Mark Threlkeld then hit a two-run homer, making the U.S. Southwest team’s lead 10-0 after the first inning.

S.C. District One was unable to get a hit in the top of the second, but Louisiana added another run in the bottom of the frame. Corey Jones opened the inning with a single. He moved to second on a balk, and to third on a wild pitch. He came home on a single by Chase Patterson.

In the top of the third, Jeremy Beachan hit a solo home run to put S.C. District One on the scoreboard. Unfortunately, the host team was unable to use that momentum to build a rally, and did not score any more in that inning.

Louisiana answered with a run in the bottom of the third. Ryan Gebhardt opened the inning with a single, then Mark Threlkeld also hit a single to give the team from Rushton runners on first and second. The S.C. District One defense executed a double play on the next at-bat, but Gebhardt was able to advance to third base. Gebhardt then scored on a wild pitch.

In the top of the fifth, S.C. District One trailed 12-1, and needed two runs to force the sixth inning. The team got that when Jeremy Beachan reached on an error, Joey Pankake hit a two-run homer to cut the score to 12-3.

But Louisiana answered in the bottom of the inning. Colby Johnson hit a double, then with two outs, Mark Threlkeld drove Johnson with a single.

S.C. District One, 0-2, next plays the U.S. South, 0-2, in a game mostly for pride Saturday night. The U.S. Southwest, 2-0, plays the U.S. East, 2-0, at 4 p.m. Saturday.
