EASLEY — A hour and a half rain delay during the Mexico-Germany matchup has caused Big League World Series officials to move Game 18 between the Dominican Republic and Asia/Pacific to a 7:30 p.m. start on Field Three.

All three games were scheduled to be played on Field One today, but series officials were concerned that if Game 18 remained on Field One, Game 19 – between the host team and Pennsylvania – would not start until after 9 p.m. Such a late start and the possibilities of more rain delays – would possibly cause the game to draw close to midnight before finishing. With a rule that no inning may start after midnight in play, officials felt that moving one of the games to Field Three was the safest option.

Game 18 was originally scheduled to begin 5 p.m. on Field One.

Field Three is shorter than Field One, with the back fences 300 yards away from home plate. A 24-foot fence has been installed, preventing some of the “home run fests” that have been played on the field in past years, but the shorter field still changes the dynamics of the game.
