CLEMSON — A Clemson man is charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature after a standoff with Clemson police Thursday morning.

Paul Jeffrey Millwood, 51, barricaded himself into home Thursday, refusing to come out after Clemson police responded to a 911 from his wife, who stated Millwood had threatened himself and her, police said.

Upon arrival, police found the woman safe, but Millwood began barricading himself into the house, police said.

Police began negotiations at 9 a.m., and they continued until 1:30 p.m.

During that time, police say Millwood threatened to kill his wife and himself.

The Clemson Police Department High Risk tactical team then made a forced entry into the home and took Millwood into custody.

EMS transported Millwood to a local hospital, where he received treatment for an ongoing illness, police said.
