PICKENS — The county’s first female Clerk of Court has died.

LeJette Gatlin, 68, died Wednesday following a battle with cancer.

Gatlin served as the county’s Clerk of Court for 8 years and retired last year.

She worked in the clerk of court’s office for 21 years before being elected.

Last year, her faithful service to Pickens County was recognized, as Gatlin received the Order of the Silver Crescent, the state’s highest award for volunteer and community service.

Gatlin was selected for the honor because of her long commitment to many local causes, including the Pickens County Guardian Ad Litem Program, Relay for Life and Toys for Tots.

Judge Eddie Wellmaker, who presided over the awards ceremony, called Gatlin “a very special lady whom everyone loves.”

The family will receive friends tonight from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home.

Gatlin’s funeral will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19 at Pickens View Wesleyan Church, with burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
