LeJette Gatlin

Pickens – LeJette Hucks Gatlin, 68, of 173 Sunrise Lane died Wednesday afternoon at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.

Mrs. Gatlin was born in Conway, SC a daughter of Margaret Causey Hucks of Pickens and the late Reverend Earl J. Hucks. Mrs. Gatlin was a member of Pickens View Wesleyan Church and was formerly a member of The Pickens Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Gatlin retired as Pickens County Clerk of Court. She worked in the clerks office for 21 years prior to being elected and serving 8 years as Clerk of Court. She was the first female elected to that position in Pickens County. Mrs. Gatlin was a member of the Business and Professional Womens Club in Easley and was elected Woman of Accomplishment in November 2005. She formerly served as Guardian Ad Litem in Pickens County and was a former President of The Pickens County Republican Women. She served as delegate and alternate to the SC Republican Convention a number of times. In 2008 Senator Larry Martin, on behalf of Governor Mark Sanford, presented Mrs. Gatlin The Order of The Silver Crescent, which recognizes people that have made a significant contribution to their community.

Mrs. Gatlin was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother for the following survivors, her husband of 48 years George Gatlin of the home, daughters Lisa G. Bryant (Mark) of Easley and Renee G. Anders (Bruce) of Pickens and grandchildren Emily Anders, Isaac Anders, Gatlin Bryant, and Mason Bryant. She is also survived by her mother Margaret Causey Hucks of Pickens and brothers Clennon Hucks (Diane) of Greer, George Edward Hucks, Sr. (Kathy) of High Point, NC, and Larry Hucks of Richmond, VA.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8 PM Friday at Dillard Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 PM Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Pickens View Wesleyan Church in Pickens. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.
