With cuts in budgets around the state, the CTC has agreed to give a one-time amount of $75,000 for each municipality to be used for safety programs.
Mayor Brian Deese spoke with Chairman Ed Martin about the project he had in mind. Deese hopes to fix at least the 15,000 feet of sidewalk that is in dire need of replacement or repair in Liberty.
“Mills Avenue’s sidewalks are in bad shape,” Deese said. “We have come up with a list of places that need to be fixed, and we will priorities them as they need the most work. I think this is a great way to spend the monies given to our community.”
There is still $9,000 left from the last sidewalk project that was done on Lakeview Drive.
That money will be added to the project said Deese. This money can be used for handicap accessibility as well.
“I think if we have the money to use, we should use it wisely,” Deese said. “Our community is walked a lot, so I feel like this is the best way to spend the money to make for a safer community.”
The council must respond on how they will use the funds by Oct. 14. Deese said he would have something ready for them to vote on next week. The project must be completed in about 10 months.
