PICKENS – Roger Eugene Shepherd was found guilty of murder, armed robbery, possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime and assault with intent to kill late on Thursday afternoon by a jury.

Shepherd, 24, was accused of murdering John Larry Bruin in Action Pawn Shop on Main Street in Easley three years ago. Thursday, a jury found him guilty of all accounts.

Judge Edward Welmaker sentenced Shepherd to 30 years at the State Department of Corrections for armed robbery, 10 years for assault with intent to kill, natural life without parole for murder and 5 years for possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime.

“The events that took place make no sense,” Welmaker said to Shepherd. “I’ve tried to follow the guidelines of similar recent cases. I sure wish you luck.”
