CLEMSON — A former school board trustee has filed for the vacant seat city on Clemson City Council

June Hay, of Country Walk Lane, filed for the seat vacated by Councilwoman Elouise James, who resigned last month.

Elected to the Pickens County School Board in 1998, the Clemson pharmacist served for 10 years as At Large Member for Seat 9 on the board. Her seat was one of three at-large seats on the board eliminated by the General Assembly. The other two seats, currently held by Shirley Jones and Kevin Kay, dissolve in 2010.

Filing remains open until Feb. 14, and candidates may file at Clemson City Hall.

In an earlier interview with the Sentinel, Pickens County Director of Registrations and Elections said that no election would be held if no candidate had filed by the deadline and no write-in candidate has filed a declaration of candidacy with the Clemson city clerk by Dec. 28.

The election will be held Feb. 9 with a run-off, if necessary, held Feb. 23.

For more information on the election, call Clemson City Clerk Beverly Coleman at 653-2031 or the Pickens County Registration and Elections Office at 898-5948.
