PICKENS COUNTY — Police have arrested four people in connection with two December burglaries while one suspect remains at large.

The first burglary took place at Eastatooee Baptist Church, sometime between Dec. 12 and Dec. 19, according to the incident report.

Someone broke into the church’s storage building, taking two trimmers and a backpack-style leaf blower.

Five were charged in connection with the burglaries, according to arrest warrants.

Barron Gregory Black, 18, of 128 Old Anderson Road, Easley; Ryan Matthew Stewart, 17, of 131 Cindy Lane, Easley; Sally Breanna Childress, 17, of 1121 Meece Mill Road, Pickens; Justin Lamar Kernells, 17, of 324 Jamestown Road, Easley; and Jacob Kyle Carpenter, 18, of 209 Bell Isle Drive, faces one count each of third-degree burglary and petit larceny in the case.

The second burglary happened at an Easley residence on Albertson Drive.

According to the incident report, the officer responding to a call on Dec. 27 recalled that a report had been made the previous Saturday, Dec. 19, that the same garage had been broken into.

The victim reported during the second complaint that he noticed a gas can in his yard and that when he opened his garage, he discovered that someone had apparently entered through the rear window and had used a piece of cardboard and a two-by-four to light a fire in the garage, according to the incident report.

Black and Stewart were charged with arson and third-degree burglary in connection with the garage incident.

According to arrest warrants, the garage suffered from smoke damage in the fire.

Kernells and Childress were arrested last Wednesday, with Kernells being released on an $8,000 bond and Childress on a $4,000 bond.

Black was taken into custody last Thursday and was still being detained at the Pickens County Detention Center as of press time. His bond was set at $10,000.

Stewart was also arrested last Thursday and was released the next day on a $10,000 surety bond, according to detention officials.

As of press time, Carpenter had not been arrested.

According to Assistant Sheriff Tim Morgan Carpenter is in Indiana and has contacted authorities.

He said plans to catch a flight back to Pickens and turn himself in once the weather breaks, Morgan said.
