Recently I was stranded in the BiLo parking lot in Easley. My car would not crank.
Wouldn't make a sound when I turned the ignition. A gentleman from Virginia came over and we determined it was not the battery. Lights, horn, etc, worked. He wanted to help but we were both stumped. I thanked him for his help. He looked sorry that he could not get the car started.
I then called a garage that had done work for me. He was tied up but gave me a number to call. A truck was there in less than five minutes. First, he asked me to turn the switch. Then he asked me to turn on the lights. That was all he needed. He then got a hammer and went under the car from the front. He made a few bangs and then told me to try it.
Started right up. A flat place on the starter caught just right and would not move, he told me.
I asked how much I owed him. (Most have a minimum per call). I was expecting $25.00 to $50.00.
He said,
"Nothing".
I could hardly believe him. In this day and time!
My age? The US NAVY sign in my rear window?
Just still good ole Southern Ways is my thinking. They aren't gone at all.
I gave him a tip and got the frozen goods home before they melted.
He was Mr. Bobby Sorgee with Carolina Automotive,
Thank you, Sir, for more than just starting my car.
