EASLEY — An Easley man died Sunday after his SUV went off the road and overturned on North Old Pendleton Road.

Willard Danniel Rochester, 42, of 246 S. McAlister Road, was pronounced dead at the scene following the accident, which occurred at 1:34 a.m., Coroner Kandy Kelley said

The single-vehicle accident occurred at N. Old Pendleton Road and South McAlister Road, said Lance Cpl. Bryan McDougald with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Rochester was traveling north on Old Pendleton “at a high rate of speed” in his 2007 GMC Acadia when the SUV left the roadway, McDougald said.

The driver overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle, which left the left side of the roadway and overturned, he said.

Rochester was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, McDougald said.

Rochester died from blunt force trauma to the head and neck, Kelley said.

Toxicology tests have been sent to the lab, Kelley said.

The speed limit in that area is 45 mph, McDougald said.

The Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.
