ANDERSON COUNTY — A two-car collision on U.S. 178 near Liberty Friday morning left an Anderson man dead.

Troy Eugene Smith, of 436 Parnell Road, Anderson, died at the scene from chest trauma, said Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore.

According to State Highway Patrol Trooper Billy Elder, the collision occurred on U.S. 178 shortly before 1 a.m. this morning.

Elder said a 2006 Mitsubishi collided with a 1998 Ford minivan.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, Julie George of Greer, was transported by ambulance to the AnMed Hospital.

Elder said George was not wearing a seatbelt and was not been trapped in her car following the collision.

The extent of her injuries was not immediately known.

Smith’s girlfriend, Danielle Booth, also of 436 Parnell Road, Anderson, was also transported to AnMed Hospital, Shore said.

Smith was wearing a seat belt and was entrapped in the car following the collision, Shore said.

The Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash, Elder said.
