Two former directors of the career center, Dr. Mendel Stewart and Ben Smith joined with the current director of the B.J. Skelton Career Center Leonard Williams to lay the first
block.
Williams has been the director since the 2003-2004 school year. He was the assistant director under Smith for 5 years prior to taking over as director.
“As assistant to Mr. Smith, I learned from the best,” Williams said.
Smith retired as director in 2003 after having the job as director for seven years.
Stewart began as director in 1989 and finished up as director in 1991.
School officials said they hope to have the building complete and ready for an open house in Sept. 2011.
The Career and Technology Center is part of the district’s $365 million facilities plan.
