Six Mile’s Ponderosa Park received some new fencing Saturday, thanks to an allocation from County Councilman Randy Crenshaw. The department hosted a Volunteer Day Saturday, and workers of all ages turned out to clean the park’s buildings and spruce up the infields and base lines.
“We’ve got a good community turnout,” said Recreation Board member Katherine Tibbs.
“We’re getting it ready for ball season, spring sports,” said Six Mile Recreation Board member Steve Durham.”
The department is offering baseball and softball for the spring season, which will start around April 1.
Workers also installed the park’s new portable fencing — an investment of nearly $12,000, said Six Mile Mayor John Wade.
“This gives us the flexibility to being able to use it everywhere, anywhere,” he said. “Pick it up and move it.”
The department was able to obtain the fencing through Councilman Randy Crenshaw, who used recreation funds allocated to his district.
“On behalf of the recreation department, we’d like to thank Councilman Crenshaw for helping us secure the funds to buy this fencing,” Durham said. “It’ll be a big benefit to the recreation department. We really appreciate it.”
Crenshaw thanked the volunteers who put so much time and effort into making the department and its programs a success.
“Without all of them, this wouldn’t be here,” Crenshaw said.
