SUNSET — Police say a 31-year-old Sunset man has been charged with murder after an argument that left another Sunset man dead.

Travis Chad Davidson, 31, of 236 Mt. Bethel Church Road, is charged with the murder of Richard Alvin Mulkey, 49, of 206 Mt. Bethel Road, a warrant states.

A Pickens County Sheriff’s deputy responded to Mulkey’s home around midnight Tuesday night after receiving a call that an assault that had just occurred, a Pickens County Sheriff’s Office incident report said.

Upon arrival, the officer discovered Mulkey in the home’s living room, with a knife embedded in his body, the report states.

Mulkey was pronounced dead at the scene, said Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley.

The arrest warrant alleges that Mulkey and Davidson were arguing at the time of the incident.

The warrant accuses Davidson of strangling Mulkey as he sat in a chair, then of stabbing him multiple times “with malice and aforethought” in the head and body, before fleeing the scene.

Mulkey was Davidson’s stepfather, police said.

Davidson is currently being held at the Pickens County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing, police said.
