Teams will walk through the night from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. at the lower intramural fields in front of Fike Recreation Center. The event will begin with a lap for cancer survivors and a “Clemson spirit” lap at 6 p.m. featuring Clemson coaches and student-athletes.
Cancer survivors will take another lap at 7 p.m. and a luminary ceremony will be held at 8:40 p.m. The evening will feature performances by student a cappella groups Take Note and TigerRoar and local musicians Velvet Runway, Coopers Puzzle and The Speak Of.
More than 1,100 people are expected to participate with the goal of raising $110,000, said Relay for Life chairwoman Kailah Critzer, a senior marketing major from Earlysville, Va. Critzer hopes a competition with the University of South Carolina will help motivate Clemson participants. USC won last year’s first “A House Divided Stands United Fight Against Cancer” competition.
“Winning not only means beating USC, but it also means coming one step closer to finding a cure for cancer and helping those who need support in their battle against cancer,” Critzer said.
