The fifth annual Liberty Idol contest will begin on April 24 at 7:00 p.m. For those who want to audition but haven’t yet, the last auditions will begin on Saturday at noon at the Rosewood Center in Liberty.
Last year’s crowds topped 5,000 throughout the season, but host and director Roy Costner hopes to beat that number this year.
The first round will begin Saturday and go through May 15. Each week, 12 contestants (48 total) will be selected to move on to the second round.
The second round will run from May 22-June 5.
Each week, 11 contestants will make it through to the third round. The top 33 will move forward.
Those 33 contestants will compete on June 12 and June 19. The top 16 will then move on to the fourth round.
On June 26, the top 16 contestants will perform a song of their choice. Ten contestants will move on to the finale.
$6,000 total will be given to the top five contestants at the finale. First place receives $2,500. Second place receives 1,250.
The third place winner will take home $1,000.
The fourth place winner will leave with $750 and fifth will take home $500.
“Liberty Idol is a family-friendly, safe event that has something for everyone,” Costner said. “We have great sponsors again this year. We are bigger and better this year. We hope everyone will come out and spend their Saturday night with us.”
