The Sentinel and sister papers The Easley Progress and Powdersville Post recently asked Anderson and Pickens counties and the Pickens County School District and Anderson School District One for a list of county employees making more than $50,000. Pickens County was the first to respond, and it also had the fewest number of employees making more than $50,000.
County Administrator James “Chap” Hurst is the only employee who makes more than $100,000. His salary is $131,127.
Hurst turned down a raise last year, said Pickens County Human Resources Division Director Jennifer Woods.
He is one of four county employees who make more than $80,000. Sheriff David Stone’s salary is $97,935, Emergency Management Director Lynn Dale Fisher’s salary is $94,611, and Finance Director Ralph Guarino’s salary is $85,100.
Several of the salaries were comparable to Anderson County. For example, both counties’ animal control directors make $50,809.
But some salaries were considerably lower in Pickens County. For example, Pickens County’s chief magistrate makes $61,640, while Anderson County’s chief magistrate makes $94,580.71.
Pickens County has about two-thirds the population that Anderson County does.
Not all of the salaries listed are solely paid for by the county. Some include state supplements.
