EASLEY – Thomas David Garrett, 79, of Easley, husband of Betty Lou Payne Garrett, died Monday, May 3, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House.
Born November 24, 1930 in Pickens, he was the son of the late J. B. and Jimmie Collins Player Garrett. He was in the Fleet Marine Force and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds he received as a result of enemy action in Korea. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Piercetown on Hwy 81.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Lou Garrett of the home; 4 sons, Michael (Juanita) Garrett of Marion, IL, Steve (Kathy) Garrett of Kansas City, MO, Jim Garrett and John Garrett (Paula) both of Pickens; 3 step daughters, Becky (Russell) Perdue of Easley, Bonnie (Dwight) Rust of Pickens and Beverly Payne of Easley; 2 sisters, Lunita (Larry) Bagwell of Easley and Patricia Ann (Ed) Martin of Edisto Beach, 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and sister-in-law, Claudette (Dave) Long of Pickens. He was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Jean Merritt.
Memorial services will be held at 2pm Wednesday at Friendship Baptist Church (Piercetown) with Rev. Chad Hastings officiating. Burial will follow in M. J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 1:45pm prior to the service at the church. The family is at their respective homes.
