5 charged in Clemson auto break-ins

PICKENS COUNTY — Five people have been in charged in connection with a spate of auto break-ins in Clemson, deputies said.

In March and early April, the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office received several reports about car break-ins and larcenies on Twin Lakes Road in Clemson.

A joint investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Natural Resources led to the arrest of five suspects.

Orin Jerel Simpson Kemp, 33, of 719 W. Mauldin St, Apt 8A, Anderson, has been charged with three counts of Auto Breaking, two counts of Financial Transaction Card Theft, one count of Financial Transaction Card Fraud, one count of Grand Larceny, and three counts of Simple Larceny.

Kemp is currently being held at the Anderson City Police Department on unrelated charges.

The Pickens County warrants will be served on Kemp upon his release, police said.

Jeanesse Diane Kemp, 31,of 719 W. Mauldin Street, Apt. 19B, Anderson, has been charged with two counts of Auto Breaking, two counts of Financial Transaction Card Theft, one count of Financial Transaction Card Fraud, one count of Grand Larceny, and one count of Simple Larceny.

Warrants were served on Kemp on May 13, and she remains in custody at the county detention center on a $13,500 surety bond.

Clarence Luke Watkins, Jr., 52, of 209 K Street, Anderson, has been charged with one count of Auto Breaking, two counts of Financial Transaction Card Theft, one count of Financial Transaction Card Fraud, and one count of Simple Larceny. Warrants were served on Watkins on May 13, and he was released from the Pickens County Detention Center on a $9,000 personal recognizance bond.

Joshua Allan Sargent, 25, of 119 Lowell Street, Ninety Six, has been charged with two counts of Auto Breaking, one count of Grand Larceny, and two counts of Simple Larceny.

Warrants were served on Watkins on May 14. He has been released from the detention center on a $9,000 personal recognizance bond.

Lorin Ashleigh Sargent, 29, also of 119 Lowell Street, Ninety Six, has been charged with two counts of Auto Breaking, one count of Grand Larceny, and two counts of Simple Larceny.

These warrants have not yet been served.

The suspects are accused of breaking into a number of cars and allegedly stealing purses, medications, sub-woofer speakers, cash and credit cards.

Officers captured two of the suspects on video surveillance during one incident on Twin Lakes Road but the suspects left the scene before an arrest could be made

The Clemson Police Department also has charges on Orin Kemp and Jeanesse Kemp, police said.
