CLEMSON — Students in the Clemson Running Club will use their passion for running to help kids at the Ultimate Stallion 5K and Fun Run on Saturday, May 22, on the campus of Furman University. Proceeds from the race will benefit Greenville Hospital System’s Camp Courage, a camp for children with cancer and/or blood disorders.

The event includes a one-mile fun run/walk, which starts at 4 p.m.; a competitive 5K race, which begins at 5 p.m.; and a 6 p.m. “doughnut relay” in which participants will eat doughnuts between each leg of the race.

Registration for the 5K is $20 in advance and $30 the day of the race. Registration for the fun run is $10. Participants in the 5K or fun run will be able to race in the doughnut relay free. Registration can be completed online at http://www.ultimatestallion5k.org/index.php or the day of the race starting at 2:30 p.m.

The Ultimate Stallion 5K started in 2007 when members of the Clemson Running Club came together to help fellow club member Kevin Dejonckheere, who had been diagnosed with cancer. The run was organized to help Dejonckheere’s family with medical expenses.

Dejonckheere is now cancer-free, but he and his friends wanted to continue to hold the fundraiser to raise money to help children with cancer.

“At Camp Courage these children can feel completely at ease and enjoy having a great time with no limitations,” said Dejonckheere, a senior mechanical engineering major from Spartanburg. “I have been a counselor at Camp Courage for three years now and have been truly moved by the joy these wonderful children experience while at camp.”

People who cannot participate in the run can make donations online at http://www.ultimatestallion5k.org.
