Highway Patrol investigating fatal wreck

PICKENS COUNTY — A one-car collision left one person dead Sunday afternoon.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the collision which occurred on Norris Highway at 5:55 p.m. Sunday, according to Lance Cpl. Scot Edgeworth with the Highway Patrol.

The name of the deceased has yet to be released by the coroner’s office, Edgeworth said.

The accident occurred as a 1996 Pontiac Grand-Am carrying three people was traveling south on S.C. 137, Edgeworth said.

The vehicle left the right side of the road and struck a tree.

The car broke apart on impact.

Two of the occupants were transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital and the third was pronounced at the scene, Edgeworth said.
