Lexington’s Haley came close to winning the Republican Party’s nomination for Governor without a runoff, taking 48.88 percent of the vote statewide.
Haley also led in votes in Pickens County, gaining 39.70 percent of the vote. Gresham Barrett was second both statewide and in Pickens County. Inside the county, Barrett was close with 36.54 percent of the vote. Statewide, Barrett was further behind with just 21.75 percent of the vote.
Haley and Barrett will face each other in the June 22 runoff election. Finishing third in the race was Attorney General Henry McMaster (16.93 percent statewide, 12.85 percent in Pickens County). Fourth was Andre Bauer (12.45 percent statewide; 10.9 percent in Pickens County).
Political newcomer Richard Cash will face state Rep. Jeff Duncan in the runoff election June 22 for an opportunity to represent the Republican Party in the November elections for the U.S. House District 3 seat. Cash led all candidates six-person race with 25.33 percent of the vote in the 10-county third district. Duncan finished second with 23.09 percent. Rex Rice was third with 19.46 percent. Joe Grimaud was fourth with 18.79 percent. Easley’s Neal Collins was fifth with 8.22 percent and Frank Michael Vasovski was fourth with 5.11 percent of the vote.
In Pickens County, Cash led with 27.49 percent of the vote, closely followed by Rice with 27.10 percent.
Collins was third with 16.48 percent. Duncan was fourth with 14.67 percent. Grimaud was fourth with 12.46 percent and Vasovski was fifth with 1.8 percent.
The winner of the Third District Republican race will face Democrat Jane Dyer in the fall.
In the Republican Lt. Gov. race, Ken Ard and Bill Conner will face each other in the June 22 runoff. Ard led with 33.7 percent of the vote, while Conner gained 27.37 percent of the vote.
Larry Richter was third with 24.27 percent of the vote and Eleanor Kitzman was fourth with 14.66 percent.
Curtis Loftis defeated incumbent Converse Chellis in the race for the Republican nomination for state treasurer, gaining 61.59 percent of the vote.
Alan Wilson and Leighton Lord will vie in the June 22 runoff election for the Republican nomination for Attorney General. Wilson led the race with 38.95 percent of the vote. Lord gained 37.11 percent. Robert Bolchoz was third with 23.94 percent.
Incumbent Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom easily defeated challenger Mike Meilinger, gaining 68.75 percent of the vote. Mick Zias and Elizabeth Moffly will face each other in the runoff election for the Republican nomination for State Superintendent of Education. Zais had 26.46 of the votes in the six-person race. Moffly had 18.90 percent.
Close behind was Kelly Payne (17.56 percent) and Gary Burgess (17.14 percent). Brent Nelson was fifth with 12.69 percent and Glen Price was sixth with 7.25 percent.
The Republican nominee in that race will face Democrat Frank Holleman III in November.
U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint easily won nomination for a second term, earning 82.98 percent of the vote over Susan McDonald Gaddy.
In the race for the Republican nomination for S.C. House District 26, Eric Bikas defeated Christopher Robin Henry Wilson by taking 54.74 percent of the votes. Bikas took 51.86 of the vote in Pickens County.
