Chamber to hold debate between Duncan, Dyer

POWDERSVILLE — The Easley Chamber of Commerce will host a forum with Third District Congressional candidates Jeff Duncan and Jane Dyer at the Taste of Distinction on at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 19.

The cost to attend the luncheon for chamber members is $15, and for guests the cost is $18.

The forum will not include John Dalen, the Constitution Party candidate.

Duncan, a state representative and business owner from Laurens, is running as a Republican.

Dyer, a former Air Force pilot and FedEx pilot from Powdersville, is running as a Democrat. Dyer unsuccessfully opposed U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett during the 2008 election, taking 35 percent of the vote.

During the June primary, Duncan was one of six Republicans on the final ballot. He narrowly defeated Powdersville businessman Richard Cash in the runoff election, taking 51.5 percent of the vote. Dyer defeated her Democrat opponent, Brian Doyle, in the Democratic primary, taking 65 percent of the vote.

Duncan is leading in the fundraising effort, according to the U.S. Election Commission.

Duncan’s campaign has raised $540,923 and has $32,323 on hand. Dyer’s campaign has raised $130,300 and currently has $20,167 on hand, according to the latest Election Commission data.

The third district includes the northwest portion of the state, including Abbeville, Anderson, Edgefield, Greenwood, Laurens, McCormick, Oconee, Pickens and Saluda counties and part of Aiken County.

The district’s current representative is Gresham Barrett, who ran unsuccessfully for governor.

The general election is scheduled for Nov. 2.
