PICKENS COUNTY—While incumbent Oscar Thorsland has not filed for re-election for the District 4 seat on the board of trustees for the School District of Pickens County, voters are already assured of seeing familiar names on the ballot come Nov. 2.

Roy B. Costner III and Ben Trotter have both filed for the office.

Costner is the heart and soul of the popular “Liberty Idol” contest that is held every year in downtown Liberty.

Trotter is a former Pickens County Councilman, and has also served on the Pickens County Planning Commission.

Filing for School Board seats 2, 4 and 6 opened Aug. 2 and will continue to be open until noon, Aug. 16.

District 2 incumbent B.J. Skelton and District 6 incumbent Jim Shelton filed for re-election Aug. 2.

Skelton faces opposition from Jimmy Gillespie of Central for the District 2 seat.

Both Costner and Trotter filed for office on Aug. 3.

The School Board seats are non-partisan with no party affiliation listed on the ballot. The seats will be part of the general election Nov. 2.

Three Clemson City Councilmen face no opposition in their re-election bids. Councilmen Michael Fowler, Jeremy Wright and Butch Trent have all filed to run again, according to elections officials.

The George’s Creek Watershed board has two seats to fill, but only one person, Brian Robinson of Easley, filed before the filing deadline.

No candidates filed for the three seats to fill on the Oolenoy Watershed board.

Candidate filing officially closed at noon Monday.
