PICKENS- Officer Samuel Byers of the Pickens Police Department has been named as this year’s recipient of the Officer of the Year award.
“He started his career at the Pickens Police department and worked his way up through the ranks and became a detective. He is a loyal employee and always goes beyond what he is supposed to do, always available if you need him for anything, just a good thorough officer,” said Pickens Police Chief, Rodney Gregory.
Chief Gregory was also a recipient of this award in 2000.
Officer Byers, from Pickens, graduated from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in 2003 and has been with the city police department for 10 years.
“I was influenced by my father to get into law enforcement; he is a Lieutenant Detective with the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office. I have had several other family members in law enforcement as well, we just really enjoy being out here doing this job,” said Byers.
The award ceremony will take place at Southern Wesleyan University on Nov. 21.
