Vallie Mae Cantrell Galloway Dodgens, 86, of Greenville, wife of Lafoy J. Dodgens, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, surrounded by her loving family, after a brief illness.

Born in Pickens, she was the daughter of the late Ansel and Maggie Gravley Cantrell. Vallie attended the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) School. She was an active member of Woodside Baptist Church for 56 years, where she dedicated her service in various areas of the church. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a unit secretary at Marshall I. Pickens.

She was a special person to many and loving wife, mother, Mema, aunt and friend.

Surviving in addition to her husband, is daughter and son-in-law, Wanda G. and Milford D. Mote, Sr.; son, Scott Galloway and Missy Timms; seven grandchildren, Shannon Anthony (Chad), Mandy Lowery (Robby), Rusty Tollison (Britni), Rendi Vicars (Ryan), Casey Galloway, Brad Galloway, and Jonah Galloway; five great-grandchildren, Alex and Jacob Anthony, Braxon and Skylyn-Rae Cox, and Adley Vicars; brother, James Cantrell; and her loving nieces and nephews.

Vallie was preceded in death by her first husband, Lonzo S. Galloway, Jr.; daughter, Rosa Carolyn Galloway; two half-sisters, Edith Stone and Beatrice Combs; and son-in-law, Tamp Tollison, Jr.

Visitation will be held Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The Funeral Service will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Northwest Chapel. Burial will follow the service in Graceland Cemetery, West.
